Lempi ('love' in old-fashioned Finnish) was my very first dog and I could not have got a better one. She was a perfect companion and I loved her to bits. Lempi was co-owned with her breeder Tapio Kakko until she had a litter of six males by Ch Orso-Farm Hiski under the Jäkäläkummun prefix in October '99, after which the ownership was transferred to me. Lempi's second litter (sired by Fidelis Miska), this time registered under the Cantavia prefix, was born in June '01. In November '04, she gave birth to her third and final litter (sired by Jäkäläkummun Dielku), which was registered under the Poavinävlin prefix. A couple of months later Lempi had to have a mammary tumour removed and I decided to have her spayed at the same time. Two more tumours were found early 2008 so Lempi had to undergo another operation. Made up in January '01, Lempi took a years-long break from the show rings and made a comeback in veteran classes late 2006. She had a Best Veteran in Show win and many other BVIS placements to her credit. What is more, she was consistently placing in the bitch challenge giving the younger ones a run for their money. A particularly proud moment was the international show in Gällivare, Sweden in June '08 when Lempi gained her Swedish title at the age of 11.5 years! Another fantastic achievement was gaining the Norwegian and Nordic champion titles at the Harstad international show in Norway in April '09, accompanied with a fourth place in the BVIS competition. As for other doggy activities, in March '02 Lempi took part in a reindeer herding test at Narkaus, near the Arctic Circle in Lapland, and passed it with flying colours. Lempi also knew her way around the agility course and attended some basic obedience classes. Her very last appearance in the show ring took place in May '10 when she went second runner-up to BVIS. After that she enjoyed her retirement to the fullest - she was absolutely spoiled rotten! In late 2011, Lempi started developing mammary tumours again, and more kept appearing as soon as the previous ones were removed, so I had to make the tough decision to let her go. Except for the mammary tumours, Lempi was very healthy all her life. I want to take this opportunity to thank Tapio for this precious dog who meant the world to me and is so dearly missed. >> Photo gallery >> Progeny >> Lempi in KoiraNet
